The Chronomètre Souverain has always been the quintessential , both in its design language and movement. Whilst typically housed in a classical 38 or 40mm case (in rose gold or platinum), the Limited Edition Chronomètre "Holland & Holland", instead takes its cue from the highly-coveted , adding an original twist to a traditional approach.
This F.P. Journe Chronomètre "Holland & Holland" is one only 66 pieces made, unveiled in partnership with century-old British gunmaker Holland & Holland. Two 19th century Damascus steel gun barrels were used to create a set of individually unique dials, following time-honoured techniques. Like the Chronomètre Bleu, the "Holland & Holland" also features a svelte 39mm case - this time, in stainless steel.
To fashion the Damascus steel dials, two antique shotguns - bearing the serial numbers 1382 and 7183 - contributed their hand-crafted barrels. Of the 66 pieces created, 38 dials were made using the barrel ‘1382’ (seen in this example), and this was engraved on the case-back. The dials were cut by the Holland & Holland factory in Kensal Green, refined by Les Cadraniers de Genève (F. P Journe’s dial maker) and then “browned” using a traditional gun-making technique, again by Holland & Holland. The result, is a highly-original, fluid-like pattern. The dial is printed with F.P. Journe’s trademark numerals and chapter ring for the minutes, though understandably forgoes a subsidiary seconds or power-reserve indicator. The signature Journe-style hands are off-white and contrast with the polished dial, to improve legibility.
This F.P. Journe Chronomètre Holland & Holland features an in-house Calibre 1304, made entirely of 18-carat rose-gold - seen through the sapphire display case-back. Beating at a frequency of 21,600 vph, it features two mainspring barrels in parallel and offers a power reserve of 56 hours ( /- 2 hours). The hand finishing is expertly completed, mixing a combination of circular graining with sunburst and wave patterns. All screw heads are polished and all edges neatly chamfered with a Côte de Genève motif on the bridges. "Holland & Holland" can also be found discretely engraved, beside the two barrels.
This F.P. Journe Chronomètre Holland & Holland comes as a full-set, with its complimentary, rich-brown leather strap; corresponding steel tang buckle, its accompanying box (printed "Holland & Holland"), guarantee card and paperwork.
Viewings can be arranged in Central London by appointment.
This F.P. Journe Chronomètre Holland & Holland is in practically unworn condition and has perfect mechanical functionality. It’s guaranteed for authenticity and comes with a two-year warranty from A Collected Man.
